Hello, my name is Marsja Mudde, welcome to my website. Feel free and look around and learn more about me and my singing activities. As you can see I do many things in music, solo, but mostly in ensembles. Ensemblesinging, especially early music ensemblesinging, to me is a vocation. It requires a special way of listening and stylespecific vocal techniques. Also, often you need to learn how to read the original notation and how to transcribe that to modern music notation. These things I love to do so much, that I also enjoy teaching them to others. In my work as a singer and teacher of early music I enjoy very much the connection the musician makes with his or her surroundings. That is, the connection with the audience, which is what most people think of first, but also the connection between yourself and the rest of the ensemble and the connection with the universe, with what is bigger than us, or if you want to call it that way, with God. Early music, more specific medieval music, renaissance music and music of the (early) baroque, often is religious or at least has its origin in a culture with a deep spiritual or religious awareness. I believe this is the "magic" of this music and that my performance of it depends on my understanding of its backgrounds. Moreover, both the language and the compositional structures are important to understand and analyse in order to perform this music as close to the original idea as possible.
