To my opinion, everyone who is interested in singing early music can learn it. Even when you have never sung before, or if your voice is trained in a totally different way, e.g. opera or pop. For some people it takes a bit longer, others learn quickly. Most important is the motivation to learn and therefore also the patience you need as a student of early music. Patience to start with trying to fully understand the text, patience to feel the text in the pronunciation that fits time and place of the composition, patience to learn about movement instead of notes as a startingpoint, and patience to learn about intervallic relations in a modal way. Learning these things will help sing and understand all styles within early music. Therefore, like my teachers before me, I build my lessons on: Text, language, movement, modality. |

Marsja is now restarting her teaching activities. As of September 2007 I give individual and group lessons at my house in 's-Hertogenbosch. All lessons are at appointment. Individual lessons in principle cost 30 Euro per hour, tax included. Group lesson fees are in consultation with the students. It is also possible to make appointments for a series of 10 lessons, with 10% discount. |
